Vocal Music majors:All Vocal Music majors are trained in a classical choral style of singing. An emphasis is placed on developing music literacy, understanding vocal anatomy, and healthy vocal use to promote a long-lasting career. Vocal Music majors perform in Concert Choir, and may also elect to join additional ensembles. Many Vocal Music majors who plan to pursue a music pathway beyond high school elect to study piano as a minor.
Vocal Music courses:Concert Choir is a required course for all students in the Vocal Music pathway for a minimum of 3 years. This ensemble is also open to non-music majors, and does not require an audition. The Choir performs at the Winter Concert, Pops Concert, and Spring Concert at MOT, as well as other local festivals and events. Their repertoire includes classical choral standards as well as contemporary and world music selections. Students must be enrolled in the Choir course to perform with this group.
Chorale provides an additional performance opportunity for interested students. Chorale is a small, select vocal group, which students may be invited to join by audition only. This group performs both separately and with the larger choir, focusing on more challenging and collegiate-level repertoire. Chorale rehearses during advisory period and is not an academic requirement. Piano is offered as an elective to Vocal Music majors through our Music Theory/Piano 1 and Music Theory/Piano 2 courses. Music Theory/Piano 2 may be taken as a dual enrollment course for college credit. |
